Abandoned to Superstition

Isaiah 2:6-9

"You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and clasp hands with pagans (or they please themselves in the children of strangers; or many strange children were born to them.)  Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots.  Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made.  So man will be brought low and mankind humbled— do not forgive them."

Eastern mysticism has had an increasing influence upon Western society as seen for example in the New Age movement with its associated religious overtones. God is not please with this kind of syncretism. The experience-oriented Charismatic community must particularly wake up in this area. In particular the Assemblies of God and the Vineyard movements should cease from embracing the bizzare practices which were a product of the "Toronto blessing" fanaticism and embrace Biblical Christianity. Walk as Christ walked, not barking like a dog or shaking like the demon possessed. So also Catholics need to put away their idols, religious trinkets and superstitions and embrace Biblical Christianity. Stop praying to dead people and stop listening to necromancers. Strange children are products of strange Christianity. Though many such people may be materially abundant as they obsess over the things of this life, they are spiritually dead. Each makes God in his own image rather than letting God define himself. And they worship and serve that which they've made. God doesn't overlook such things. The solution is humility, which God brings about through humiliation and which can lead to repentance.
